The local pub, The Victory Inn, offers all of the characteristics of the local rustic village pub with quality locally sourced food. It also has log fires in the winter and cricket on the green on lazy summer days ensuring it is ever popular. The village also has a post office and the local farm shop. The school closed in December 1983 so most of the local children attend St Giles primary school in neighbouring Great Maplestead. There are secondary schools in Halstead, Sudbury and Sible Hedingham.
Spencers farm shop is a family run business set up in 1973 as a fruit farm, the farm shop opened in 2000 and the coffee shop in 2010. The farm shop stocks a vast range of fruit/vegetables, cakes, cheeses, fresh meat, frozen food etc. There is also a play area for children at the back of the shop. The range of Pick Your Own fruit and vegetables is extensive and available from April to the end of the autumn. The Coffee Shop offers a relaxing environment and a wide range of home made food and many of the products on the menu are available in the farm shop.
